Fitchburg State University, in partnership with DMH Electric, Integrative Charging, and Until, announces the opening of new public DC chargers. The chargers provide high-speed EV charging access to students, faculty, staff, and the general public, supporting the continued growth of electric vehicle adoption across the region.
The project was funded through Unitil’s EV infrastructure program, which covered all civil construction, electrical work, and charger installation. The charging hardware and software were paid for by Integrative Charging. DMH Electric served as the project developer and electrical contractor, leading installation efforts and coordinating closely with all project stakeholders to deliver a turnkey solution.
Installation began in January 2026 but experienced delays due to winter weather conditions. Progress resumed following a critical transformer upgrade completed in mid-March. The transformer swap represented a major coordinated effort, involving more than a dozen personnel from Unitil, DMH Electric, Fitchburg State University, and supporting contractors.
“These types of projects highlight how essential utility programs are in accelerating EV infrastructure deployment,” said David Hinckley Jr., President of DMH Electric. “By covering the cost of infrastructure and installation, Unitil enabled a seamless rollout that brings fast, reliable charging to both the campus and the surrounding community.”
Following DMH Electric’s installation of eight Level 2 charging ports on campus in fall 2025, these new dual-port DC fast chargers bring the total to 12 charging ports and introduce high-speed charging capabilities, dramatically improving convenience and accessibility for EV drivers. The stations are strategically located to serve both campus visitors and local drivers traveling through the Fitchburg Area.
Ownership and operation of these charging stations will be managed by Integrative Charging, a national charging developer and operator that oversees EV infrastructure across the country. Integrative Charging will handle station management, maintenance, and customer support, ensuring consistent uptime and a seamless charging experience.
